Excellent service, professionalism and great communication
My wife and I moved from Canada to Spain on March 3rd 2020. We sold most of our stuff and decided to bring two 60kg plastic boxes on the plane with our airline freight service (managed by the WFS monopoly). Our airline charged us around 400$ for transportation and offered a 3 day free storage. Our stuff - 100% personal belongings - was moved from Montreal to Madrid on a direct flight.
First, know that freight is considered as commercial merchandise and will be charged a 21% tax upon import in Spain, calculated on the declared approximate value. We were also asked to sign a document promising not to sell any of our belongings for a year. My wife was a returning emigrant, so she luckily got a tax exemption (Baja) from the Spanish consulate in Montreal.
Second, you need to hire a custom agent to get your stuff through customs. There is no other way to get your stuff through the Spanish customs. That’s when companies such as iCustoms24 jump in.
Not knowing how the whole process worked, my wife and I were confused and many of the companies we approached seemed dodgy (to say the least). But, when we found iCustoms24, we immediately felt we were in good hands. As of the first email, Christophe sent us all the useful information and documentation. We knew, right off the bat, what we had to do and how much it would cost. It’s the only company that offered us such a straightforward and easy process.
As the process was moving along, Christophe was keeping us informed and answered all of our questions over email and the phone. Honestly, we were glad we had him to walk us through this « mysterious » process for any neophyte. International freight services is a world in itself and it can quickly become overwhelming with the anxiety of feeling taken advantage of. Thankfully, Christophe made the whole experience much simpler. We filled the provided documents, paid the fee (around 400 euros) and voilà!
Note that iCustoms24 was the only company that guaranteed our merchandise would be ready upon our arrival. All the other ones shied away from any responsibility regarding our belongings.
Upon our arrival in Madrid, everything was already solved and our merchandise was waiting for us at the WFS office to be taken home. Christophe had sent us confirmation the day before.
Know, however, that WFS is a monopoly and that they will probably charge you an extra fee upon claiming your belongings. Add that to your budget (i.e. around 75$ CDN for 120kg, but it may be more depending on how they feel that day). One piece of advice: ask WFS first for any fee upon recovery and get their answer in written form.
All in all, iCustoms24, and Christophe in particular, fulfilled all their promises, went the extra mile to solve a minor billing issue, and we strongly recommend their service.
We would do business with them any time.
